Triumphant Tuesday: Amelia Earhart's Trip Across the Atlantic Ocean

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to the crazy world! Today we'll be taking a look at Amelia Earhart's solo trip across that Atlantic Ocean. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

Amelia Earhart was an American aviator who set many flying records in her lifetime. She was famous for being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and the first person to fly from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. During one of her attempts to cross the world, she mysteriously disappeared and neither she nor her plane were ever recovered. She was eventually declared lost at sea.

Another one of Earhart's famed accomplishments was being the first woman to fly solo above 14,000 feet, a difficult task at that time. She was quite the record-breaker.

In 1932, Earhart became the first woman in the world to fly solo (second only to Charles Lindbergh.) She left Canada and arrived in Ireland in a cow field in Londonberry. When she landed, she was presented the Distinguished Flying Cross, a military decoration given to people who "displayed heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight."
