Summer States No. 26 - Michigan

     Hello everybody and welcome back to another installment of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this wacky world! Today we'll be taking a look at Michigan, the twenty-sixth state of the United States. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

  • Date of Statehood: January 26, 1837
  • Capital: Lansing
  • Population: 9,883,640 (2010)
  • Size: 96,713 square miles
  • Motto: Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice (“If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you”)
  • Tree: White Pine
  • Flower: Apple Blossom
  • Bird: Robin
     Fun Facts:
  • Henry Ford began his automobile production line in Michigan.
  • The Great Lakes supply 80% of North America's freshwater and 20% of the world's freshwater.
  • No matter where you stand in Michigan, you are within eighty-five miles of one of the Great Lakes.
