Historical Figure Wednesday: Anne Frank

Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive world we all call home! Today on Historical Figure Wednesday, we'll be talking about Anne Frank, a teenager who lived during the Holocaust and firsthand experienced the horrors Jewish people had to go through. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

Anne Frank's parents were named Edith Frank and Otto Frank. She had a sister, Margot, who was three years older than Anne. Sadly, Otto was the only survivor of the Frank family who lived to tell the tale of the horrible concentration camps. Anne Frank is best known for the composition of her diary, known simply as "The Diary of a Young Girl". The entire book is Frank recanting her tale of living in secrecy, hiding away from the Nazi's.

Frank was born on June 12th, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. The Franks were your typical family, not particularly wealthy and lived in a religiously diverse neighborhood. But little did the Frank's know, their serene household was about to be shattered as World War II would soon break out, and their lives would change forever.

What many people don't know is that the Frank's never once left the tiny space in which they lived for constant fear of being discovered. They had to be quiet during the day because they might alert the workers in the warehouse below. Life was tense because of the eight people that shared the small space. The bathroom was hotly contested and many precautions had to be taken to avoid discovery, such as putting up blackout screens on the windows.

     Fun Facts:
  • "Anne" is just a nickname. Her full name is Annelies Marie Frank.
  • Anne's diary was a present for her thirteenth birthday.
  • Anne called her diary Kitty.
