Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Make Fun! I'll be host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive world we all call home! Today on Historical Figure Wednesday, we'll be taking a look at Benjamin Franklin, an icon in American history. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's hop right into it!

Benjamin Franklin was a prominent leader in early American history. He was a statesman, author, publisher, scientist, inventor, and diplomat. Born into a family of moderate wealth, Franklin had little formal education. He went on to start a printing company in Philadelphia and grew rich. He became deeply interested in public affairs and helped launch a lending library, hospital, and college.

Franklin helped draft the Declaration of Independence, among other very important men. He also drafted other books, such as the Poor Richard's Almanack, which was a best-seller and further increased his fortune. He was a major voice in the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and is extremely important in American history.

     Fun Facts:
  • Franklin spent most of his life in unofficial retirement.
  • Franklin invented the armonica, an instrument played by rubbing wet fingers on bowls to produce a pleasing sound. It was played by Beethoven and Mozart.
  • Franklin was a "reluctant revolutionary" meaning he was one of the last founding to have full separation from Britain.
