The 9/11 terrorist attacks were suicide attacks carried out by the terror group called Al Qaeda. Their only purpose and intent was to cause as much destruction and damage as they could to various government buildings. The first two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The third plane crashed into the Pentagon just outside Washington D.C. and the fourth and final plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which instigated major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism, one of which being tighter airport security, which is how the terrorists snuck aboard with knives and box cutters.
This awful tragedy left America speechless. How could we have let something so terrible happen right under our noses? Later investigation revealed that the terrorists were actually trained to fly planes on a U.S. flight camp. This stunned the U.S. even more. We trained these people to fly planes into our government buildings? It was an awful part of American history.
Now, almost twenty years later, America has rebounded a little. A new World Trade Center building has been built, and we have honored the brave men and women that died in the 9/11 terror attacks by building memorials where the original Twin Towers used to stand. We thank all of the people that helped save the scared people trapped inside the burning towers.
