Summer States No. 17 - Ohio

     Hello everybody and welcome back to another installment of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to the world! Today we'll be taking a look at the seventeenth state to be admitted into the United States, Ohio. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get straight into it!

  • Date of Statehood: March 1, 1803
  • Capital: Columbus
  • Population: 11,536,504 (2010)
  • Size: 44,825 square miles
  • Motto: With God All Things Are Possible
  • Tree: Buckeye
  • Flower: Red Carnation
  • Bird: Cardinal
     Fun Facts:
  • The city of Cleveland, Ohio was originally named Cleaveland. It was changed because a newspaper called the Cleveland Advertiser dropped the "a" and the new spelling caught on.
  • The first ambulance service was established in Cincinnati in 1865.
  • The cash register was invented in Ohio to prevent patrons from stealing from shops.
