Summer States No. 22 - Alabama

     Hello everybody and welcome back to another installment of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this wacky, wacky world! Today we'll be taking a look at the twenty-second state to be admitted into the United States, Alabama. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

  • Capital: Montgomery
  • Population: 4,779,736 (2010)
  • Size: 52,420 square miles
  • Motto: Audemus jura nostra defendere (“We dare maintain our rights”)
  • Tree: Southern Longleaf Pine
  • Flower: Camellia
  • Bird: Yellowhammer Woodpecker (Northern Flicker)
     Fun Facts:
  • Alabama was the first state to declare Christmas a legal holiday in 1836.
  • Alabama workers designed the rocket that would put men on the moon.
  • Montgomery was the capital and birthplace of the Confederate States of America.
