Summer States No. 5 - Connecticut

     Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Summer States, a division of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your tour guide, Mr. Nations, your leader and guide to the marvelous world of history! Today we're going to be talking about Connecticut, the fifth state to be admitted into the union. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get straight into it!

     Connecticut Facts:
  • Date of Statehood: January 9th, 1788
  • Capital: Hartford
  • Population: 3,574,097
  • Size: 5,544 square miles
  • Motto: Qui Transtulit Sustinet (Latin for "He who transplanted still sustains")
  • Tree: White Oak 
  • Flower: Mountain Laurel
  • Bird: American Robin
     Fun Facts: 
  • The first telephone book, issued in Connecticut, only contained fifty names.
  • Connecticut is home to the first hamburger, Polaroid camera, helicopter, and color television.
  • Connecticut is home to the Scoville Memorial Library, the oldest library in the United States.
