Summer States No. 9 - New Hampshire

     Hello everybody and welcome back to another issue of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to the wacky world of international history. Today we're going to be taking a look at the ninth state admitted to the United States, New Hampshire. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

     New Hampshire Facts:
  • Date of Statehood: June 21, 1788
  • Capital: Concord
  • Population: 1,316,470 (2010)
  • Size: 9,348 square miles
  • Motto: Live Free or Die
  • Tree: White Birch
  • Flower: Purple Lilac
  • Bird: Purple Finch
     Fun Facts:
  • New Hampshire was home to the first American astronaut, Alan Shepard Jr., and the first private civilian, Christa McAuliffe, to travel into space.
  • New Hampshire is one of only nine states that does not require its residents to pay state income tax.
  • Of the thirteen colonies, New Hampshire was the first to declare its independence from England.
