Battle Wednesday: The Surrender at Yorktown

Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive, confusing world! Today on Battle Wednesday, we'll be taking a look at the Surrender at Yorktown, the date that General Charles Cornwallis surrenders his troops, bringing an official end to the American Revolution. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

The Revolutionary War was a terrible war fought over the independence of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain. It is one of the most known American "underdog" stories of all time. Nobody thought the colonists would win the war over the mighty British Redcoats, but the Americans defied all odds.

     Fun Facts:

  • The British were outnumbered about 2:1
  • Cornwallis claimed to be ill to skip the surrender ceremony.
  • Cornwallis claimed that haf of his army had come down with malaria and were unable to fight.
