Triumphant Tuesday: The Invention of the Computer

Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Mad Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive world! Today we'll be taking a look at the invention of the computer, one of the most fundamental inventions to occur in the 20th century. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

Computers nowadays have all the features under the sun. Back then, computers were massive and only had very basic functionalities. They could do calculations and play very basic games, but that was about it.

The 1970s is where things started to heat up. Computers could be purchased commercially but had to be assembled by the customer. Computers didn't serve many purposes for the average user and were mostly purchased for their novelty. Nowadays, ordinary life is hard to picture without the assistance of a computer.

     Fun Facts:
  • Did you know that Time Magazine named the personal computer "Man of the Year?"
  • The very first electronic computer ENIAC weighed more than 27 tons and took up 1,800 square feet.
  • There are more than 5,000 computer viruses released every month.
     ENIAC makes its debut:
