Triumphant Tuesday: The Invention of the Telephone

Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive world! Today we're going to be discussing possibly one of the most beneficial inventions in the world, the telephone! Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

Alexander Graham Bell is typically credited with the invention of the telephone, considering he was the one who filed the first patent in 1876. Despite the hundreds of lawsuits that would come his way after the patent, none proved successful and Bell went forth in history as the creator of the telephone.

     Fun Facts:
  • The first message sent via telephone by Bell was to his assistant Thomas Watson. The message said "Watson, come here. I want you!"
  • Mark Twain was one of the first people to have a telephone.
  • Telephones were wildly popular, increasing from one phone in 1876 to 11 million in 1915 in the U.S. alone.
