Misfortunate Monday: The Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive, history-rich world! Today on Misfortunate Monday, we'll be taking a look at the assassination of Martin Luther King Junior, henceforth to be called MLK Jr. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Christian minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. (Wikipedia) I think that Wikipedia sums up MLK Jr. perfectly. He was a great man who made
serious headway into the world of equality.

Martin Luther King Jr. was tragically shot to death in the Lorraine Motel by James Earl Ray 200 feet away from a nearby motel. The shot hit JFK Jr. in the neck and he died later at St. Joseph's Hospital, ending his illustrious career as a public speaker.

     Fun Facts:
  • James Earl Ray escaped from a Missouri prison a month earlier.
  • King was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964, making him the youngest recipient of the award.
  • There are 730 streets in the United States named after Martin Luther King Jr.
