Historical Figure Wednesday: Abraham Lincoln

Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive world we all call home! Today on Historical Figure Wednesday, we'll be looking at one of the most iconic figures in the world, Abraham Lincoln. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States and is warmly regarded as the savior of the Union and the emancipator of the slaves. In other words, he freed the slaves from captivity. His story of going from humble beginnings to the highest honor in the United States is a remarkable and amazing one.

Abraham Lincoln was born to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. The couple had two other children. Sarah, Lincoln's older sister, and another child, who sadly died at birth.

Unfortunately, Lincoln was assassinated at a time when the country needed him most. Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while viewing a play in his theater. His legacy and work will always be remembered in the history of the United States.

     Fun Facts:

  • Abraham Lincoln was the tallest president in history, at a gargantuan 6' 4''
  • On the day he was shot, Lincoln told his bodyguard that he had dreamt of being assassinated.
  • Everybody knows about Honest Abe's giant stove-pipe hat! But what many don't know is that he used to store stuff in his hat. He stored documents and letters in it!
