Triumphant Tuesday: The Construction of the Burj Khalifa

Hello everybody and welcome back to another installment of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to the world! Today we're going to be taking a look at the construction of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and a remarkable feat in the architectural world. So, what are you waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

The Burj Khalifa is a truly astounding piece of architectural ingenuity that required the work of several construction and design companies. Because of the height of a building of this nature, several wind tests had to be conducted on it. Over forty in fact. They tested with wind speeds equal to that of the average wind speed usually present in Dubai, micro-climate zones, and hurricanes. These had to be done because a building of this height had never been constructed ever in history.

Much of the space inside the tower is filled with homes and office space, as many large buildings are. The hallways are lined with beautiful artwork from prominent Middle East artists and lots and lots of furniture. Because of this, the Burj Khalifa was quickly given the status of one of the biggest and most practical buildings in the world.

         Fun Facts:

  • Over 45,000 square meters of concrete were used to construct this monstrous tower.
  • The amount of rebar used in the Burj Khalifa could stretch a quarter of the way around the world if laid end-to-end.
  • Construction set many world records.
