Innovative Tuesday: The Invention of the Airplane

Hello everybody and welcome back to another edition of Nations Made Fun! I'll be your host, Mr. Nations, your tour guide to this massive world we all call home! Today on Innovative Tuesday, we'll be taking a look at the airplane, a giant leap in the world of transportation. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's dive straight into it!

The airplane is by far one of the most important inventions in the world of transportation. Unlike trains, airplanes can go on water and don't require tracks to be laid. Most planes are built to last, making them much cheaper than trains, which need tracks, go much slower than planes and last for fewer years.

As many people probably know, the airplane was invented by brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright. Their first flight was in Kittyhawk, North Carolina in 1903. It was a great leap for mankind and the art of aviation was created.

Even before airplanes, there were many inventors who tried to be like birds and fly. Kites, hot-air balloons, airships, gliders, and many other aircraft.

     Fun Facts:

  • The reason Orville was the first man on the plane was because of a coin toss.
  • A toy launched the brother's obsession with planes.
  • Neither brother received a high school diploma.
